Acuity allows Adept Lynx mobile robots to navigate in environments where the surroundings are highly dynamic, the company said. The feature is especially valuable in applications such as materials transport within high-traffic warehouses. In such cases, an autonomous robot’s navigation must allow for the constant movement of people, pallets, carts and forklifts, and the emptying and refilling of shelves. Standard Lynx systems already operate in environments where the surrounding features change by as much as 80 percent. Acuity uses overhead static cues to pinpoint the robot’s location, allowing operation where the horizontal environment is even more dynamic, Adept said. Applications range from work-in-process transport in busy manufacturing settings, to materials handling in dynamic warehouses and operations in facilities with wide, open spaces. Lynx mobile robots feature on-board intelligence, which chooses the best path to complete a task. They run in conjunction with the user’s existing facility software, and can work safely alongside personnel.
