The base rate index, which excludes the impact of accessorial charges assessed by carriers, decreased by 0.91 percent when compared to July 2014. Average fuel surcharges assessed by carriers decreased this month. Fuel was 21.48 percent of base rates in August versus 21.59 percent in July.
"Cross-border truckload was the only sector that saw an increase," said Doug Payne, president and chief operating officer of Nulogx, a provider of transportation management solutions and the sponsor of the CGFI. "Overall, rates started to increase in August 2013, and continued to rise until March of this year. Since that time, there has been a steady decrease."
