Ultra Logistics has launched the newest version of its UltraShip transportation-management system (TMS) software. Version 3.5 gives shippers greater flexibility when tendering freight by percentage of volume, customer or location, the vendor said. The software can be customized to meet the needs of individual shippers. New features include turn-by-turn driving directions and visual load board displays to show load activity and coverage in real time. The changes reduce time spent on the phone giving directions or querying the system for status updates. The system now manages fuel surcharges by carrier, region and mode of transportation. The function helps to isolate fuel costs and give shippers a more precise tool for managing that area of expense. Version 4.0 of UltraShipTMS will launch in January of 2008. New upgrades will allow non-core carriers to be managed by a third party, allowing shippers to focus on the most important relationships in their supply chains.
