Now in its fifth year, CSCMP’s Young Professionals Committee has a growing list of accomplishments. Outgoing chairman John Bowersox, director of operations at Ann Sacks Tile, notes that membership has grown from 15 to 375 since inception, thanks in part to the committee’s increased marketing and presence on social media. This year’s biggest accomplishment, Bowersox says, was development of a formal mentorship program, which was introduced at the 2014 CSCMP annual conference in October.
Incoming committee chairman Michael D’Angelo, rail operations analyst at Volkswagen, intents to build on that momentum. “Our number one objective in the coming year will be to focus on students,” he says. “We will launch a Student Roundtable program, which we hope will serve as a channel to show students the benefits of CSCMP, so we can convert them into young professional members moving forward.”
Under this program, the YPC will ask all CSCMP Roundtables across the country to add a young professional member to the board to help provide a voice for YPs and to develop programs that will attract more young professionals, says D’Angelo.
In the coming year, YPC also will conduct a robust member survey to help the committee know which new services to develop, D’Angelo says. “We will use the results to further strengthen our value proposition to young professionals.”
