MeadWestvaco, the worldwide packaging company, has awarded a 20-year management contract to Des Plaines, Ill.-based DSC Logistics. The deal covers operations at the logistics center in Lofton, Va. Under the agreement, DSC will provide logistics-management services at the existing facility. At the same time, it will team up with Gray Construction of Lexington, KY to build another 400,000 square feet of warehousing space. The additional facility is due for completion in December, 2008. Services to be performed by DSC on behalf of MeadWestvaco include inbound and outbound rail bookings, recouping of damaged material, order visibility across the network, and inventory management. DSL and MeadWestvaco have a long-standing relationship, which also includes logistics-management support at the customer's facilities in Atlanta, Ga.; Houston, TX; Florence, KY and Greensboro, N.C. DSC has also taken over management of MeadWestvaco's facility in Chicago.
