Schenker AG recently conducted a ground-breaking ceremony for a 15,000 square-meter logistics hub in Vietnam. The facility will be located within the Song Than Industrial Zone of Binh Duong Province, near Ho Chi Minh City. It is expected to be completed by April of 2008. For the new hub, Schenker has entered into a logistics joint venture with Gemadept, Vietnam's largest shipping agency. The two companies have worked together in the logistics sector since 1993, Schenker said. The joint venture is operating under the name of Schenker Gemadept Logistics Vietnam Ltd. It will concentrate on warehousing and related contract logistics, although other services might be offered as well, the company said. The logistics hub will serve both export companies with its container freight station, as well as international companies from the growing high-tech industries around the southern hub of Ho Chi Minh City. The center will add to Schenker's three existing offices in Vietnam, where the company has been operating since 1991.
