The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of accessorial charges assessed by carriers, increased 1.2 percent when compared to April.
Average fuel surcharges assessed by carriers decreased this month. Fuel was 15.46 percent of base rates in May versus16.04 percent in April.
"Total freight costs increased marginally this month. Although there were slight increases in LTL and truckload cross-border costs, these were mostly offset by decreases in the LTL and truckload domestic costs," said Doug Payne, president and chief operations officer of Nulogx, a provider of transportation management solutions and the sponsor of the CGFI.
