Miami serves as a strategic consolidation hub for freight originating from China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Europe and the U.S. to Manaus. CaroTrans said container volumes to Brazil have grown considerably over the past 10 years. Manaus is a major commercial center and the main transport hub for the entire upper Amazon Basin. It has operated a free trade zone since 1957, offering tax exemptions and other economic incentives to shipments moving through the region. Today, said CaroTrans, Manaus is home to approximately 600 businesses, many of them electronics manufacturers. Craft, an NVO operating in South America, serves as CaroTrans’s partner in the region, with more than 40 direct less-than-containerload services between North and South America.
