Slightly more shoppers will celebrate Father's Day this June 19, for a an expected total of $18.8bn, according to the annual Brand Keys Father's Day survey. Some 78 percent of consumers plan to celebrity Father's Day, up 2 percent from last year. Each will spend an average of $157.
Top gift items include gift cards (40 percent), clothing (35 percent), tools (20 percent), electronics (18 percent), and wine and spirits (15 percent).
But several top gift categories are losing popularity as fewer shoppers than last year plan to give gift cards, tools and smartphones.
