Stirling Capital Investments has begun construction of a 296,000-square-foot distribution facility at the Southern California Logistics Centre (SCLC) in Victorville, Calif. Covering more than 17 acres, the project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of this year. Developers claim it will be the first ever logistics-oriented facility developed at SCLC, offering multiple services related to warehouse management and logistics fulfillment. "We are developing a state-of-the-art Class A industrial building, featuring contemporary tilt-up concrete and an abundance of trailer parking spaces which is a competitive advantage for a building of this size," said Stirling vice president Brian Parno. To run the operation, Stirling Capital has entered into a co-marketing agreement with Cal Cartage, a third-party logistics provider which manages some 13 facilities in California, Chicago, Georgia and Mexico. The warehouse will capitalize on its location in the California High Desert, considered an alternative for distribution and warehousing companies to higher-priced locations elsewhere in the Inland Empire. The building is the fourth to begin construction this year under the aegis of Stirling Capital, which will seek LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the Victorville facility. Stirling Capital is a joint venture between Stirling Enterprises, a development company, and DCT Industrial Trust Inc., a real estate investment trust.
