The new edition of "A Guide for Establishing Warehouse Job Descriptions" is now available from the Warehousing Education and Research Council. According to WERC, proper job descriptions are essential to the effective management of warehouses. "They are the roadmaps employees follow in fulfilling their duties," the organization said. A number of changes to the warehouse-labor landscape have occurred since publication of the last edition in 1997, including a broadening of job requirements and a greater reliance on team effort. The new book is designed to help managers incorporate new skills, including expertise in negotiations and computers, into their job descriptions. The guide offers descriptions for 34 positions that might be found in a typical warehouse or distribution center. It provides a template to help identify options for each job, including a summary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The guide was co-authored by Cliff Lynch of Clifford F. Lynch & Associates. It can be purchased for $70 a copy, or $35 for WERC members.
