The electrostatic dissipative (ESD) labels are made of materials that naturally dissipate static charges more quickly than traditional vinyl drum labels. Mitigating the effects of static electricity in certain industrial settings is critical, said Tom Chenkel, product engineer for Labelmaster. Traditional laser printing adds static charge to labels as toner inks are bonded to surfaces, he said. A static discharge is generated when the label is separated from its liner and then applied to a container. Labelmaster's new ESM drum labels feature a material that rapidly reduces the potential for static discharge during label application. The labels were also designed to withstand rough handling, harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, UV exposure, moisture, scraping and abrasion. They are ideal for painted steel, fiber or plastic drums, Labelmaster said.
