LLamasoft Inc., a vendor of software for supply-chain network design, has created a means of assessing a supply chain's impact on the environment. The company has enhanced its Supply Chain Guru application with capabilities for modeling and optimizing greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions. Users can calculate their GHG footprint, determine where emissions can be reduced, and incorporate carbon-offset purchases into their calculations. With the help of tools for optimization and simulation, they can directly incorporate such capability into all major network-design activities, including site selection, sourcing, transportation, inventory and production. In the process, companies can determine where carbon offsets should be purchased and applied. Chainalytics LLC, a provider of analytical supply-chain services, will deploy LLamasoft's Supply Chain Guru to analyze clients' carbon-emissions footprints, as part of its regular offering.
