Hilti North America, a supplier of tools and fastening systems to the worldwide construction industry, has become the anchor tenant at a new distribution campus in Riverside, Calif. The facility is operated by Ozburn-Hessey Logistics, which is acting as a third-party logistics (3PL) provider on behalf of Hilti. OH Logistics was selected from among 16 candidates to manage the new Hilti West Coast Re-Supply Center, according to William Gerlach, director of Hilti's supply chain. The choice, he said, "came down to a cultural fit." Gerlach said the new center has cut 14 days from the time it takes for Hilti's imports to move from Asia to North America. "We're now able to provide next-morning and same-day delivery of our products in select metro areas," he said. The Hilti operation increases to nine the number of distribution facilities maintained by OH Logistics in Southern California, totaling more than 1.8m square feet. Hilti takes up 75,000 square feet of the 177,000-square-foot center at Riverside. The facility features modern technology and services, including a paperless radio-frequency environment, and A/B food-grade quality standards. "We look forward to serving additional customers from this flexible distribution center," said Jim Moynihan, regional vice president of operations with OH Logistics. The vendor runs more than 100 distribution centers, with units devoted to international services, contract logistics and transportation services. Hilti services a number of construction-industry processes, including gas- and powder-actuated fastening, drilling and demolition, diamond coring and cutting, measuring, fire-stopping, and screw fastening, adhesive and mechanical anchoring.
