DHL has upgraded service in its handling of international express shipments to the U.S. Importers and international customers using the company's International Express services now have the option of noon delivery, an improvement over the end-of-business-day deadline previously offered. According to DHL, the service will benefit customers of its Import Express service, offering door-to-door handling for expediting imports to the U.S. International Express shipments that fall within DHL's a.m. delivery area--serving 77 percent of all U.S. businesses--will qualify for the new upgrade. Shipments cleared and delivered to U.S. service centers by 9:00 a.m. will be delivered by noon to applicable areas. In a more localized development, DHL has opened a new service center in White River Junction, Vt. The company has invested $640,000 in the 11,000-square-foot facility, which will oversee local pickup, delivery and sorting operations. DHL previously had a 2,000-square-foot facility in the area. On the international front, DHL has announced four new initiatives in Vietnam, part of a $14m investment in that country. DHL plans to spend nearly $6.5m on the construction of two service centers, one in Dong Nai and another in Ha Noi, as well as two courier depots in Da Nang and Hai Phong. The investment includes expansion of the vehicle fleet of DHL-VNPT Express Vietnam.
