Oracle Corp. has made generally available version 8.97 of its JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools technology platform. The new release features an open-platform design so that customers can choose hardware, operating systems and database technologies according to their individual IT strategies and business requirements. The software continues the evolution of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne toward a service-oriented architecture. The result for users, Oracle claimed, is streamlined system management, faster performance for client browsers and improved reporting based on Extensible Markup Language (XML) formatting. Version 8.97 introduces Server Manager, a centralized Web console for the management of all EnterpriseOne server components. Simplified menu navigation allows for the use of browser tabs, easier importing and exporting of data on the system's application forms, and support for the Firefox browser. Improved embedded reporting lets users launch a complete run-publish-distribute cycle from a single user interaction, and output multiple objects such as invoices from one batch of data.
