The educational organization APICS has formed a partnership with the American Society of Transportation & Logistics (AST&L) to help individuals achieve certification as logistics specialists. Under the agreement, Certified Supply Chain Professionals (CSCP), along with professionals or fellows who are Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM/CPFIM), may receive waivers for two of the six modules needed to obtain AST&L's Certification in Transportation and Logistics (CTL). CSCPs seeking their CTL may now bypass the elective Supply Chain Module needed to obtain certification. At the same time, CPIM and CFPIM designees may bypass the required Logistics Management module. The APICS-certified CSCP program equips professionals with the knowledge needed to manage the integration and coordination of modern-day supply-chain activities. AST&L's CTL program began in 1948. To qualify, an individual must be an active member of the group and have a four-year undergraduate degree or three years of professional experience. APICS, which now bills itself as The Association for Operations Management, was founded as the American Production and Inventory Control Society.
