Richmond Cold Storage, a logistics service provider with distribution facilities in four southern states, has acquired a new warehouse-management system (WMS) to support the nationwide distribution of perishable products. Richmond is implementing an application from HighJump Software at 12 locations in Virginia, North Carolina and Alabama, under a centralized deployment model. With more than 40m cubic feet of warehouse space, Richmond counts a number of Fortune 500 processors among its customer base. The company chose the HighJump WMS because the software allows it to assert greater control over operational processes. The goal was to achieve the flexibility to meet individual customer requirements while maintaining a low cost of system ownership. The system integrates with Richmond's customer Web portal to make real-time inventory and shipping data accessible. It supports contractual requirements between logistics providers and their customers, including billing based on material-handling transactions, storage capacity utilization and customer-specific billing requirements. The HighJump software will also help Richmond to comply with regulations of the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Agriculture, and the Food and Drug Administration. Richmond can add modules as business demands warrant, HighJump said.
