Seegrid Corp. is now offering its vision-guided industrial mobile robots to the material-handling industry. The units can navigate their environment without magnetic tapes, guide wires or lasers, the company said. The technology incorporates early-stage capabilities of autonomous robot behavior, including sense, move, analyze, interact and repeat. Operators can instruct the robots to move along a desired path, adding behaviors such as horns and stop stations within minutes, according to Seegrid. The robots can be put into operation almost immediately upon delivery, once an operator inputs the path. The technology offers the functionality of automated guided vehicles with greater flexibility at a considerably lower cost, the company claimed. Seegrid was founded by Hans Moravec, a noted scientist in the field of robotics, and Scott Friedman, a software entrepreneur.
