Seegrid Corp., a manufacturer of vision-guided mobile robots for the material-handling industry, has introduced the GT3, an autonomous "tugger" unit. Drawing on Seegrid's Industrial Mobile Robotics (IMR) technology, the vehicle uses stereo cameras to build a 3D map of the manufacturing, warehousing or distribution environment. The machine then uses its own map and reasoning ability to navigate a predetermined path to carry out its assigned task. The GT3 is Seegrid's first machine to provide facility-wide transport in the material-handling industry, the company said. It transports materials and finished goods without wire guides, magnets or lasers. According to Seegrid, the vehicle can be implemented quickly and easily with no disruption to workflow. Workers can focus on higher-value tasks. Seegrid's IMR technology provides early-stage capabilities of autonomous robot behavior, including sense, move, analyze, interact and repeat.
