StarTrak, a vendor of systems for wireless monitoring and control of transport refrigeration, has teamed up with SkyBitz, Inc., a provider of satellite-based asset tracking and information management. Together the companies will offer a cold chain wireless management platform known as StarTrak ReeferTrak, utilizing the SkyBitz satellite communications network. SkyBitz has placed an initial order for 500 ReeferTrak devices for its fleet customers; both companies will offer the new service to their respective customer bases. SkyBitz's Reefer Control Service exclusively utilizes StarTrak's information-technology infrastructure, which is marketed to SkyBitz customers as data "powered by StarTrak." The combined offering permits seamless integration of dry van, bulk and refrigerated truck and trailer-monitoring systems over a broad-coverage, low-power satellite system. It complements StarTrak's other satellite and cellular-connected ReeferTrak products. The ReeferTrak system supports every reefer model offered by both major reefer manufacturers. The offering provides for real-time reefer status, GPS position, operating state, temperature, fuel level, alarm status and engine hours. In addition, it supports two-way commands to change temperature set points, and clears alarms within minutes, the companies said. StarTrak is a subsidiary of Alanco Technologies, Inc.
