A professional procurement infrastructure is a critical enabler in getting grip on a organization's spend, says management consulting firm Capgemini. However chief procurement officers, supply chain managers and chief finance officers often face the challenge of running various applications in a not-so-integrated systems landscape. Elements of the landscape have been implemented to support sourcing, supplier management, contract management, ordering and payment. Often category-specific solutions and/or various systems with the same functionality adopted at different corners of the organization are found, which results in various data sources, multiple administrations and increasing efforts to get a clear view of the overall spend results. This is not the optimal scenario for the CPO and CFO in their objective to get as much spend under control.
So what procurement systems landscape should an organization be aiming for? As part of the integrated spend management framework, procurement professionals of Capgemini Consulting have developed a new offering to create what they call the optimal procurement systems strategy.
"We map your current landscape on our procurement systems framework and assess the needs of your organization," says Capgemini's Nicolai Giling. "We summarize this analysis and provide our expert view. Next, in a joint effort with experts and decision makers of your organization, we develop your vision and strategy for the coming years. Following the procurement strategy, the needs assessment and other variables, we jointly craft a development plan which can be managed by your procurement board."
