DT Research, Inc. has expanded its line of WebDT Mobile Tablets with the addition of a rugged, fixed-mount tablet which can run applications in support of specific business processes. Users can economically deploy fixed-mount tablets in adverse computing environments such as emergency vehicles, forklifts, warehouses and watercraft, the vendor said. The new device runs on Microsoft Windows XP Embedded and Windows XP Professional operating systems. The WebDT 520 can be turned into a fixed computing device, running only specific applications that are necessary for a given job function. The unit enables real-time data access in harsh environments by combining high-performance processing and wireless networking with shock, vibration and water protection. Built-in Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity and wireless Wide Area Network (WAN) options ensure optimal network connections in remote locations. An optional Global Positioning System (GPS) module renders the WebDT 520 compatible with mapping applications. The new tablet also includes an optional back-up battery pack, implemented as an uninterruptible power supply.
