What is this thing called a warehouse?

We all have an image in our brains of the traditional warehouse, with its high racks and narrow aisles, staffed by an army of humans who scurry about storing, picking and processing orders for shipment. But that definition no longer tells the whole story. Today a warehouse might be anything from a mega-facility to a small section of a retail store, set aside to fulfill e-commerce orders. It could be smack in the middle of a major city, or in a remote rural area. And the labor situation is changing, too. On this episode, we trace the past, present and future of the warehouse with Michael Mikitka, chief executive officer of the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC).
