Can ethical sourcing practices really “change the world”?
Dawn Tiura thinks so. As president of the Sourcing Industry Group, she believes that corporate sourcing strategies offer “the most significant lever” for driving social change — more so than government regulation, corporate commitments to ethical practices, and pressure from investors. Given the history of outsourcing to date, that might seem to many like a bold statement. After all, in the decades since manufacturers began flocking to China and other parts of Asia with low labor costs, we’ve seen an endless stream of stories about the mistreatment of workers, leading in some cases to injuries of even deaths. But Tiura says manufacturers can turn that trend around. At the same time, she acknowledges the obstacles to achieving that goal. So what’s the path forward — is it offshoring, reshoring or “right-shoring”? Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
