Schneider Logistics has expanded its network of regional logistics centers (RLC) to Canada, with the opening of an RLC in Toronto, Ont. The Toronto facility is Schneider's first RLC outside the U.S.
Schneider's RLCs include brokerage and logistics services, enabling them to provide a one-stop shop for customers, says Mitch Weckop, general manager of transportation. "Through our RLCs, customers interact with a single sales representative who has the capability to match them with the best transportation mode for their needs, from truckload to intermodal to less-than truckload," he says. "Many of our U.S.-based customers also ship in Canada, so adding an RLC in Toronto was a logical next step in helping provide them with top quality service abroad."
Since the opening of its original RLC in Evanston, Ill., in 2005, Schneider Logistics has opened centers in Atlanta, Chicago (formerly Evanston), Dallas and Reno, Nev. These RLCs have a network of carriers more than 10,000 strong, Weckop says.
Schneider is building up its infrastructure now "in order to provide customers with a leg up with the market turns," he says. "More relationships means more capacity--capacity that we know our customers will need."
