Another heat wave is wreaking havoc on supply chains and crimping the movement of goods.
According to The Wall Street Journal, dried-up rivers, scorching heat and power rationing in parts of China are disrupting factories and threatening crop yields, with the critical commercial corridor along the Yangtze River particularly hard hit.
Global manufacturers including Volkswagen, Toyota and Apple supplier Foxconn are among companies that have suspended operations because of power shortfalls.
Water levels in the upper stretches of the Yangtze — a crucial source of hydro-power, transport and water for crops — are at the lowest level since records began.

The heat wave in China comes as record temperatures have threatened crop yields in the U.S., killed hundreds in Europe and disrupted power generation. Authorities expect water levels at Germany’s Rhine to rise above critical levels in the coming days but shipping operations remain disrupted.
