The life of the drayage trucker in “normal” times is a difficult one. And these times are anything but.

Drayage truckers, who haul containers and trailers over relatively short distances, usually between a port and a warehouse or distribution center, face a number of daily challenges: low pay, poor working conditions, delays in accessing marine terminals, and the high cost of buying and maintaining equipment. And those woes have only been ramped up by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On this episode, we discuss the current plight of the drayage trucker with Drew Herpich, chief commercial officer with Transportation Insight and Nolan Transportation Group. He discusses the pressures that are weighing on drivers today, and the prospects for relief. And he suggests some ways that their lives could be made easier.
