CN has unveiled an easy-to-use greenhouse gas emissions calculator that shows rail, particularly CN, is the right environmental choice for shipping freight.
The new calculator, located at www.cn.ca/GHG_calculator, allows shippers to measure emissions savings for shipments using CN versus truck. Users simply select imperial or metric units, enter the distance and weight for the shipment, and click on the "calculate" button to get the results.
James Foote, CN executive vice president for sales and marketing, says, "The new calculator is a powerful tool demonstrating the significant environmental and energy-saving benefits of using CN.
"Rail emits six times less greenhouse gases than heavy trucks. Plus, rail consumes a fraction of the fuel to transport one ton of freight one kilometer. In fact, we can move one ton of freight 197 kilometers on just one liter of fuel."
