SAP AG has opened a second Co-Innovation Lab for the development of "green" information technology and service-oriented architecture (SOA). The new facility is in Ohtemachi, Tokyo, Japan. The move broadens SAP's efforts to work with customers as well as independent software, technology and service partners to speed up the development of new systems. According to the company, members of the Tokyo lab will focus on critical business needs such as SOA adoption, green IT and virtualization techniques to assist with software implementation. Companies endorsing the lab include Dell Japan, Inc., Fujitsu Limited, Hitachi, Ltd., IBM Business Consulting Services K.K., Intel Corp., Microsoft Co., Ltd. and NEC Corp. The lab will serve as a hub for the investigation of new technology that can meet the needs of Japanese customers, as well as introduce new ideas from Japan to the world, SAP said. It will create real-world situations on Web-enabled and internet- or intranet-accessible business applications. SAP opened its first co-innovation lab in Palo Alto, Calif. in June of 2007.
