CSX Corporation was named to the first-ever Forbes Net Zero Leaders List May 31, an honor acknowledging companies that are reducing their carbon footprints and achieving their sustainability goals. By earning the sixth spot on the list, CSX achieved the highest ranking of any company from the transportation sector.
“Rail is the most fuel-efficient mode of land-based freight transportation, and CSX has taken a leadership role in demonstrating how rail will play a key role in creating a more sustainable supply chain,” said Joe Hinrichs, CSX’s president and chief executive officer. “We are continuing to introduce innovative technologies and operating practices that further improve fuel efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions.”
Forbes used raw data from Sustainalytics and Morningstar to develop the list. Sustainalytics provided Low Carbon Transition Ratings which evaluate an organization’s climate governance, strategy and risk management. Morningstar offered an analysis of how each company can overcome industry challenges as well as potential economic downturns. Only U.S. public entities with valuations of at least $1 billion were eligible to make the list.
