The U.S. State Department will partner with the Government of Panama to explore opportunities to grow and diversify the supply of semiconductors, under the International Technology Security and Innovation Fund created by the CHIPS Act of 2022.
A statement released by the State Department July 20 said the U.S. “views Panama as a partner in ensuring the semiconductor supply chain is diverse and resilient” and described semiconductors as “the building blocks of today’s economy.” The collaboration aims to build new opportunities that attract industry investments and expand the technical workforce in both countries.
The partnership will begin with a review of Panama’s current semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, regulatory framework, and workforce and infrastructure needs.
