A recent survey by BravoSolution of more than 100 public sector procurement professionals finds that they are struggling to implement best practices in their operations. The main obstacle is a lack of organizational support, even though managers are fully aware of their poor spend visibility, and the need to adopt "green" procurement practices. Only two-fifths of respondents to the survey felt their overall procurement process was either very efficient or efficient. Yet two-thirds felt additional pressure from supervisors to generate cost savings. Nearly half didn't know whether their current sourcing strategies were showing marked savings over the prior year. And while 89 percent endorsed the use of electronic sourcing applications as a means of streamlining the procurement process, most complained of a lack of support from top management in implementing such systems.
