Members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union at Ford Motor’s Chicago, Illinois assembly plant voted to ratify a proposed contract with the carmaker, said the union’s local chapter in a November 8 social media post.
UAW 551 said that 57% of the votes cast by its members were in favor of the deal, according to Reuters. Ford Motor employs nearly 4,500 hourly workers at the assembly plant.
Amajority of UAW workers at Ford’s Michigan plant have already voted in favor of the tentative deal.
The UAW’s new agreement, which covers 57,000 Ford workers, includes a raise of at least 33% over the life of the contract as well as cost-of-living adjustments that allow wages to stay in check with inflation rates.
Ford was forced to withdraw its full-year financial forecast in October due to “uncertainty” regarding the ratification of the deal with the UAW. The company also said that it estimates the new contract would add between $850 and $900 in labor costs to each vehicle Ford produced.
Union workers are currently voting on new collective bargaining agreements with Stellantis, GM and Ford following six weeks of strike actions against the Big Three automakers from September 15 to October 30.
The UAW first announced a tentative deal with Ford October 25 followed by a deal with Stellantis October 28. The final agreement, reached between the UAW and GM on October 30, effectively ended the union’s strikes against the American car manufacturers.
