Driverless trucks might be zipping down the roads sooner than you think.
The technology behind driverless cars is well-advanced, and despite some glitches in the relatively small number of vehicles already in service, we can expect to see them expand their presence on streets, roads and highways in the coming years. But what about driverless trucks? Are we ready for giant 18-wheelers barreling along the highways of America with no human in the cab? Barrett Young, head of fleet safety at Netradyne, believes the technology already exists to make that possible. So what will it take for autonomous trucks to catch on in a big way? Much of the answer lies in public acceptance. There’s also the question of the infrastructure that needs to be built in order to accommodate the vehicles. In the meantime, there are some effective technology alternatives that ensure the safer operation of trucks with humans behind the wheel. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
