The real-time sustainability tracker Permutable AI released a ranking of the companies that have the best and worst deforestation practices November 22.
The scores from Permutable AI represent the total cumulative sum of public sentiment data points regarding deforestation mentions in the media. A score of one means the company registered a single positive sentiment mention.
Nestlé ended up with the highest score on Permutable AI’s list (130). Unilever placed second (100), Barry Callebaut placed third (67), Mondelez International (50) came in fourth place and Aviva placed fifth (38).
According to Permutable AI, the companies that are facing the most scrutiny when it comes to deforestation practices include HSBC Holdings (-10), BNP Paribas (-19), Michelin (-22) and Blackrock (-26). JBS was the company that registered the lowest ranking on Permutable AI’s list with a score of -151.
“The release of these rankings underscores the importance of environmental considerations in evaluating corporate practices,” said Wilson Chan, the CEO of Permutable AI. “We believe that transparency and awareness can drive positive change, and we encourage companies to reassess and enhance their sustainability efforts.”
