The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans to launch a sustainability Web portal specifically for the retail industry late this year, according to the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA). The site will streamline the process of information gathering on environmental sustainability and compliance issues. RILA, along with other representatives of the retail industry, has been collaborating with EPA over the past several months to create the Web portal, which will centralize information on environmental compliance, sustainability and pollution-prevention practices for retailers. The portal will provide easy access to all retail-related environmental compliance information within EPA's website. Among those collaborating with EPA on the effort are members of the RILA Sustainability Initiative (RSI), which is intended to aid retail companies in the pursuit of environmentally sustainable activities and business practices, as well as meet environmental standards. RSI membership is open both to members and non-members of RILA. RILA and RSI will serve as EPA's primary resource and sounding board for developing the Web portal, the association said.
