Wavelink Corp. has made available version 7.1 of Wavelink Terminal Emulation, the vendor's tool for extending applications residing on mainframe systems to mobile workers. Among the new features are customized mobile device screens, allowing administrators to optimize terminal emulation screens for mobile workers using the new WYSIWYG screen re-formatter. They can set proper size and resolution, including only relevant data fields and providing on-screen help and notes for mobile users. In addition, administrators can now import and export scripts between the terminal-emulation scripting utility and third party text editors. The feature allows them to write terminal-emulation scripts in their preferred utility. Version 7.1 also offers support for double-byte characters in Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese Chinese and Korean. Wavelink Terminal Emulation 7.1 is now available as a free upgrade to customers with maintenance agreements and can be purchased through Wavelink partners. In a related announcement, Wavelink has forged a strategic alliance with Datalogic Mobile, a provider of rugged mobile devices for warehousing, field-force automation and the retail industry. Wavelink will be providing support for all Datalogic Mobile devices with its Terminal Emulation and Avalanche products. Datalogic Mobile is part of Datalogic, a European manufacturer of barcode readers, data-collection mobile computers and radio frequency identification systems.
