China is launching an investigation into the European Union's recent scrutiny of Chinese companies bidding on projects in Europe.
China's Ministry of Commerce will focus on EU probes into wind and solar power companies among others, where the EU had looked into whether government subsidies had unfairly given Chinese companies a leg up in the bidding process. That includes a new investigation launched by the EU on July 10 into Chinese wind-turbine companies in Germany. China is alleging that the EU's investigations may have created "trade barriers" that violated the terms of their economic treaty, according to the Associated Press.
This marks the latest move from China in retaliation against new provisional EU tariffs of up to 38% against imported Chinese EVs. China has also opened anti-dumping probes into pork and brandy imported from Europe, with a hearing on the latter currently set for July 18. The EU and China are expected to continue negotiations on EV tariffs in the months to come, before the levies become permanent in November.
