Border agents at London's Heathrow Airport are planning to go on strike between August 31 and September 3.
After September 3, the union representing the agents at Heathrow plan to enter into a "work-to-rule" period through September 22, where they'll only do the minimum amount of work required in their contract, and will not work overtime. According to a release from the union, the dispute is over forced changes to terms and conditions for workers dating back to April, including "inflexible rosters."
“Our hard-working members at Heathrow take great pride in keeping our country’s border safe, but many are being forced out of the job they love," Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union general secretary Fran Heathcote said. “They’re being told by managers to choose between caring responsibilities and their job, which is no choice at all."
The PCS claims that 160 staff have left the Border Force since April due to inflexible schedules, and that part-time and partially-retired staff members "are being forced to change their working hours and practices."
The strike will occur during one of the airport's busiest periods of the year, when vacationers are coming home at the end of the United Kingdom's summer school holidays.
