Is India on the verge of eclipsing China as a global manufacturing powerhouse?
As a source of global manufacturing, many believe that India is well-positioned to take significant market share away from China. A lot of factors are lining up to make that scenario plausible. But there are also questions about the timing and extent of India’s emergence on the worldwide economic stage. On this episode, we examine India’s prospects with Samir Kapadia, chief executive officer of India Index and managing principal with Vogel Group. He’s convinced that India can realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of making the country one of the world’s top three economies. (It’s in the top five now.) But there are challenges to overcome, including competition from Vietnam and the need to invest heavily in new production facilities, transportation infrastructure and worker training. Says Kapadia: “India needs to decide what kind of supply chain partner it wants to be.” Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
