Samsung Electronics workers in India have ended a strike that lasted for more than a month.
According to BBC News, the strike included roughly 1,500 workers in the city of Chennai, in a push for higher wages, better working conditions, and union recognition. The union reportedly made the decision to return to work after Samsung management expressed a willingness to engage on talks for better pay, medical insurance and improvements to facilities. Despite that, the company still has not officially recognized the union, with a court expected to rule on the union's registration sometime in the coming days.
The strike began on September 9, at a Samsung Electronics factory that manufacturers home appliances. Representatives for the workers met with officials from the state labor department on October 15. Shortly after that meeting, the state's minister of industries announced that the workers would be ending their strike immediately, adding that Samsung had agreed to not retaliate against anyone who participated in the work stoppage.
