Canada’s Ontario premier Doug Ford says a 25% tariff on all goods imported from Canada to the U.S. would be “devastating to workers and jobs” in both countries, reports The Guardian.
“We need a Team Canada approach and response — and we need it now,” Ford said on X, November 25. He urged Justin Trudeau to call an urgent meeting with Canadian premiers.
Donald Trump has said that he will sign an executive order imposing a 25% tariff on all products coming into the United States from Mexico and Canada, and additional tariffs on China once he becomes U.S. president again.
“On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders,” Trump said in a November 25 post on Truth Social.
In a later post the same day, Trump said the U.S. “will be charging China an additional 10% Tariff, above any additional Tariffs, on all of their many products coming into the United States of America”.
“I have had many talks with China about the massive amounts of drugs, in particular Fentanyl, being sent into the United States — But to no avail … Until such time as they stop, we will be charging China an additional 10% Tariff, above any additional Tariffs, on all of their many products coming into the United States of America.”
In response, China warned that “no one will win a trade war.”
