Descartes Systems Group, the global provider of logistics software, has acquired Dexx, a Belgium-based provider of customs-filing and logistics-messaging services. The deal adds European customs-filing capabilities, as well as a community of European logistics organizations, to Descartes' network of more than 4,000 connected members. Dexx helps shippers, carriers and freight forwarders to manage the submission of customs filings and messages to multiple customs authorities. The company is a member of EuroTradeNet, a group formed to promote electronic trade with an emphasis on customs filings in Europe. Dexx also manages the Brucargo Community System (BCS), the cargo community network in operation at Brussels Airport. BCS facilitates the electronic exchange of information between airlines, integrators, general sales agents, forwarding agents, ground handlers, truckers, shippers and governmental agencies. Descartes claims a user base of some 1,600 ground carriers, 90 airlines, 30 ocean carriers and 900 freight forwarders and third-party logistics providers.
