Compiere, Inc. has released what it claims is industry's first warehouse-management system (WMS) software to be built on an open-source platform. Integrated with the vendor's enterprise resource planning (ERP) application, Compiere Warehouse Management is intended to boost visibility into warehouse operations while automating inbound and outbound logistics within the facility. The WMS was developed in collaboration with Specsavers Optical Group, an eyewear retailer with more than 1,000 stores throughout Europe and Asia. Specsavers uses Compiere's open-source ERP system to manage accounting, purchasing, sales, material management and distribution. The $2bn company needed a WMS that would fit its global requirements. Compiere's WMS enables directed putaway, picking and replenishment through a customizable rules engine. It supports wave planning which simulates and recommends the most efficient picking process. Compiere's software can be easily customized to meet changing business requirements, without the need for programming, the vendor said.
