Wabash National Corp., a manufacturer of semi trailers, has launched a purchasing consortium with other businesses associated with the transportation industry. Wabash is the principal member of the new Transportation Equipment Purchasing Consortium (TEPC). The objective of the group is to identify and boost efficiencies and economies of scale in the procurement of raw materials, component parts and services, according to Steven Miller, vice president of supply chain management with Wabash. Each member of the consortium is a manufacturer or other business associated with the transportation industry. Members at the group's launching included Kentucky Trailer, Utilimaster Corp., Federal Signal Corp. and VT Specialized Vehicles Corp. Wabash National specializes in the design and production of dry freight vans, refrigerated vans, flatbed trailers, drop deck trailers, dump trailers, truck bodies and intermodal equipment. Its products are sold under the DuraPlate, ArcticLite, Eagle and Benson brand names. The company operates under two wholly owned subsidiaries, Transcraft Corp. and Wabash National Trailer Centers.
