E-tailers may be interested to hear that consumers who avoid online shopping due to concerns about fraud, identity theft and hackers can now shop the Web without fear-and even without their credit cards, according to ScanAlert, a web site security certification company, and MODASolutions, an alternative payment option provider. ScanAlert offers the HACKER SAFE service while MODASolutions' SECURE-eBill allows consumers to shop using their online banking account, without releasing any personal or financial information.
When shoppers click on the SECURE-eBill option at checkout, an e-mail invoice, the eBill, confirming their purchase arrives in their e-mail instantly. Consumers then pay the invoice using their secure online banking account, just as they might pay utility bills via the web. The money is transferred, bank to bank, and the transaction is complete. Unlike credit card and electronic check purchases, SECURE-eBill never requires the disclosure of consumers' personal or financial information over the Internet, where it can fall into a hacker's hands.
