A comprehensive review of the Pentagon budget is necessary in light of a discouraging lack of cost control in many DOD programs, according to U.S. Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
It is time to take a "very, very intense, focused, comprehensive view of what we're buying," Mullen says. He called a potential budget review "healthy" and noted his dismay at the lack of cost control on current programs. "We are going to have to get a grip on that. Or we won't be able to buy them in the quantity we need."
