AmeriQuest Transportation Service has formed a new material-handling division, aimed at mid-sized to large distribution companies and private fleets. The company said it can lower the cost of replacement parts and service for material-handling equipment, by drawing on the combined buying power of its member base. Companies can search some 3 million parts for more than 100 original equipment manufacturers and save an average of 15 to 45 percent, AmeriQuest claimed. Members can order parts online, over the phone or by fax. The online system gives customers the ability to choose parts by part number or from an actual drawing of their make and model of equipment. The system also enables users to perform research and provides real-time inventory levels and pricing, the vendor said. AmeriQuest said its members had been requesting an inside-the-warehouse material-handling service that includes forklift parts, service and a new equipment-purchasing program. Following a brief trial with an outside provider of that service, it decided to bring the program in-house. AmeriQuest found it could provide members with better pricing and a larger menu of services. It plans to add new suppliers and products each month, with "substantial" savings for members.
