A recent survey of nearly 300 IT executives revealed lukewarm interest in software as a service (SaaS) despite its budget-friendly, pay-as-you-go model. In fact, on a list of 24 possible IT projects priorities for 2009, survey respondents ranked SaaS at No. 23. What's holding users back? Potential security risks and a loss of IT control topped the list of perceived barriers to SaaS adoption. Even proponents say getting a good service contract is paramount.
